What is Neuro-Feedback?
Neuro-Feedback is a type of Bio Feedback which allows a client to have greater sensory perception of areas they would not usually be aware of. This enables a client to train their brainwaves to achieve greater performance. Neuro-feedback uses rhythmic electrical activity from the brain and challenges the client to modify this feedback to get the desired result.
An analogy we can use for Neuro-feedback is that information passes through our brain waves like a surfer riding on waves in the sea. If the surfer is going faster or slower than the waves, then he might fall off. Neuro-feedback is a way of training our brain waves to work at the optimum frequency for the information to travel on.

What to expect from a Neuro-Feedback session
Your initial appointment will involve an assessment. This clarifies the intention of the treatment and is used to obtain any relevant background information. Tests of focus and attention are given to clients to obtain a base line for the client and information to guide future treatments. This initial assessment can be spread over several sessions.
After assessment treatment is then started. Regular sessions are required and usually span 50-60 minutes. Neuro-feedback can range from 20 to 40 sessions, ranging from 3 times a week to weekly depending on the intensity and strategy appropriate to meet the goals of the client.

Neuro-Feedback in the Treatment of Developmental Trauma
Here is an image, taken from Sebern Fisher’s book, ‘Neurofeedback in the Treatment of Developmental Trauma’;

"After four months
of Neuro-feedback,
this 10 year old boy’s drawings
of his family reflect
increasing neurological development,
developing his sense of self."
The images clearly show in improvement in this child’s ability to think, view his family and himself over 4 month period.
