Counselling Intern & Neurofeedback Technician
Karen started with Positive Future Self as the Business Manager in Sept 2019. During her time in this role she supported the growth of Positive Future Self, growing it to a practice of 6 clinicians and 3 administrative staff over a period of 20 months.
Karen has been, and remains, passionate about this expansion, and its alignment with her goals of providing high quality mental health and clinical services to the Eyre Peninsula and in particular Port Lincoln. She has a vision of a practice that holds clients in a safe and held space from first contact, and that shares in the celebration of successes and positive outcomes for their clients.
Karen holds a Bachelor Social Science (Psychology) and is in her final months of studying a Graduate Diploma in Counseling, commencing placement in May 2021.
Karen has many years working in the clinical and program management arena, previously having worked as a program manager for Country Health SA in the Better Care in the Community Program, overseeing program staff across 13 sites in Country SA. She has experience working with clients, utilising her training in Neuro-Linguistic Kinesiology amongst other healing modalities. Karen is passionate about healing the underlying causes of distress in her clients and uses an integrated approach, with an underlying basis in Person Centred Therapy. She is interested in working with the Mental (thoughts), Physical (somatic experience), Behavioural (patterns), Emotional (feelings) and Spiritual (connection to inner wisdom and mindfulness) perspectives and their place in influencing a client’s health and wellbeing.
Karen has completed her EMDR training and is now able to support clients who have experienced trauma. She is passionate about assisting client to resolve any trauma that might be keeping them from experiencing their best life.
Karen is a qualified Neurofeedback technician and is part of the neurotherapy team. She enjoys working in this area and seeing the amazing improvements in client’s wellbeing and lives as they work with Positive Future Self. She is keenly interested in the brain and how it works and is fascinated by the neurobiological aspects of Neurofeedback therapy and how it supports improved mental health and wellbeing.
